Gourmet to take home

The city shops its pantry at the markets and the century-old gourmet shops: taking a piece home is the most honest souvenir. You just need to know what travels well and what doesn't.

What travels well

Extra-virgin olive oil, vinegar, fish conservas, turron and dry sweets, cava and wines in their packaging. Shops prepare travel boxes and wineries sell protective cartons.

What isn't worth it

Very cured cheese suffers, unpackaged charcuterie has complicated customs outside the EU and ripe fruit never arrives. The rule: if the airport pharmacy stocks the same, buy it at home.

The trade's shops

Century-old grocers downtown and the markets' produce shops pack and ship: the purchase that arrives home in better shape than checked luggage would manage.
